FIND YOUR BMW OWNER'S MANUAL

• Driver profiles: your seat, mirror, climate and iDrive settings save to your key. Set them once per key and each driver gets their own car.
• Service history: check what's due in iDrive under Vehicle Status / Service Requirements — BMWs track condition-based servicing per component.
• ConnectedDrive / My BMW app: pair the app to lock/unlock, precondition, send destinations, and read vehicle status remotely.
• Decode your build: run your VIN through the VIN decoder and your window-sticker codes through the Code Vault to know exactly what your car shipped with.

Color is the language: red = stop safely and address now; yellow/orange = attention soon, safe to drive gently; white/green/blue = informational.

• Yellow triangle + exclamation: DSC (stability control) event or fault — common after a battery change or wheel swap.
• Half-engine symbol (EML): reduced-power limp mode — drivable, but diagnose soon.
• Drivetrain malfunction: ignition/fuel-delivery fault on turbo cars — often ignition coils, plugs, or the high-pressure fuel pump.
• Tire pressure (TPMS): check pressures cold against the door-jamb sticker, then reset TPMS in iDrive.
• Brake wear: BMW pads have wear sensors — one light means a sensor tripped, usually 1,000+ miles of warning.

BMW uses condition-based servicing (CBS) — the car tracks each item. Typical real-world intervals owners follow:

• Engine oil: BMW allows up to ~10,000 mi / 12 months; many enthusiasts change at 5–7,500 mi.
• Brake fluid: every 2 years (it absorbs moisture regardless of miles).
• Spark plugs: roughly every 40–60,000 mi on turbo engines.
• Engine & cabin microfilter: yearly or ~20,000 mi.
• Coolant, transmission fluid: "lifetime" per BMW — most independents recommend ~60–80,000 mi refreshes for longevity.

• The controller: rotate to scroll, nudge like a joystick to move between panes, press to select; on most versions the top surface is a touchpad — draw letters to spell.
• Shortcut (favorite) buttons: press-and-hold any numbered button to save whatever's on screen — a contact, destination, radio station, or menu.
• Voice: newer cars respond to "Hey BMW" — try "Hey BMW, I'm cold" or "take me home".
• Built-in manual: on iDrive 5+ the full owner's manual lives in the car — Menu → Apps → Owner's Manual, searchable.

• Dead fob battery: most fobs take a CR2032/CR2450 coin cell — slide out the hidden metal key blade, pop the cover. Display keys charge in the car's wireless tray.
• Locked out with a dead fob: the hidden blade opens the driver's door (the keyhole is often under a cap on the handle).
• Dead-fob start: hold the fob against the marked spot (steering column or console — the manual shows yours) and press start.
• Comfort close: hold the lock button — windows and sunroof close; hold unlock to vent them open on hot days (if equipped).

• Correct pressures are on the sticker in the driver's door jamb — per axle, and different for full-load. Always set cold.
• Run-flats: most modern BMWs ship on run-flat tires with no spare — you can drive ~50 mi at reduced speed on a puncture.
• TPMS reset: after adjusting pressures or swapping wheels, reset in iDrive (Vehicle Status → Tire Pressure Monitor) so warnings recalibrate.
• Staggered setups: many BMWs run wider rears — fronts and rears aren't rotatable side-to-side on those cars.

• Battery registration: when a 12V battery is replaced, BMWs need the new battery registered (and coded if the type/capacity changed) so the charging system manages it correctly.
• Jump points: the battery is usually in the trunk — use the marked jump terminals under the hood instead.
• Sits a lot? A smart trickle charger prevents the parasitic-drain dead battery — the #1 cause of mystery warning lights.
• Electronics acting weird? Low 12V voltage causes bizarre faults on any BMW — including EVs. Test the battery before chasing gremlins.
