The oil filter housing gasket hardens and shrinks from heat exposure, allowing oil to leak. Oil can reach the serpentine belt causing it to slip, or drip onto the alternator causing electrical failures.
Symptoms
Oil leak from passenger side of engine, oil dripping on serpentine belt, burning oil smell, oil pooling near alternator
Fix / Remedy
Replace OFHG and all associated O-rings. Inspect serpentine belt and alternator for oil contamination. Clean thoroughly.
