Rear Subframe Mounting Points

The E46 rear subframe mounting points in the unibody can crack and tear away from the floor pan. The sheet metal around the mounting bolts fatigues, especially on cars driven hard or in cold climates. If ignored, the subframe can partially separate from the body.

Symptoms
Clunking from rear over bumps, visible cracks in trunk floor near subframe mounts, uneven rear tire wear
Fix / Remedy
Reinforce with welded plates and new subframe bushings. Best done at the same time as bushing replacement. Full floor pan repair needed if cracks are advanced.
