The S85 V10 shares the same rod bearing vulnerability as its S65 V8 sibling. The 8,250 RPM redline and high specific output accelerate bearing wear. Catastrophic failure destroys the engine.
Symptoms
Knocking from engine, metallic particles in oil, elevated copper/lead in oil analysis
Fix / Remedy
Preventive rod bearing replacement with updated BMW or aftermarket bearings. All 10 bearings must be replaced. Engine-out job.
