The BMW F04 designation covers the hybrid version of BMW's sixth-generation 7 Series flagship sedan. Built alongside the conventional F01 (short-wheelbase) and F02 (long-wheelbase) cars, the F04 was BMW's answer to buyers who wanted the full-size luxury experience with reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions, without sacrificing the effortless power expected of the range-topping sedan. The Models & Body Styles

The US-market F04 came in two closely related forms, both four-door sedans:

• ActiveHybrid 750i — the standard-wheelbase hybrid sedan.
• ActiveHybrid 750Li — the long-wheelbase version, adding rear legroom for chauffeur-style comfort.

Both cars carried the same drivetrain and technology; the only meaningful difference is wheelbase and rear cabin space. The "Li" designation follows BMW's long-standing convention for extended-length flagship sedans.

Engines & Drivetrains

The F04 ActiveHybrid pairs BMW's N63 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with an integrated electric motor sandwiched between the engine and transmission. The system uses a lithium-ion battery and can move the car on electric power alone at low speeds for short distances, while the electric motor also provides torque fill and brake energy recuperation. Power routes through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels.
